On 12 November, Galeria Ponto Azul in Lisbon opens Bronze & Oil, the largest presentation of my work so far: eleven paintings on linen and eleven bronzes, made over the last two years and shown together for the first time.

Why show them together

For a long time I thought of painting and sculpture as two separate studios in one building. This year the two started answering each other. The blue of Tidewater, No. 4 is the colour of the patina on Open Hands II; the weight of Torso, Night appears again in the dense ochre of a canvas on the opposite wall.

In the gallery the bronzes stand among the canvases, not in a room of their own, so that colour and mass can be read side by side.

Opening and visits

The opening is on Thursday 12 November from 6 to 9 pm, and the exhibition continues until 16 January 2027. I will be at the gallery on Saturday afternoons in December. A catalogue with an essay by the curator Marta Quintela is available at the gallery and by writing to the studio.

Works from the show can be reserved in advance: write to the studio for the preview list.
