Every year, Samuel, our buyer, spends three weeks in Ethiopia during the harvest. This time, he tells us about Guji, where it all began for Maison Kafé.
The cradle of Arabica
Coffee grows wild in the forests of south-western Ethiopia. Guji farmers still grow heirloom varieties, never selected, which give those unique notes of jasmine and peach.
Picked by hand
The cherries do not all ripen at once: pickers go over the same tree three or four times, and only take the red ones.
- 1,900 to 2,200 m above sea level
- 3,000 families in one cooperative
- 15 days of drying on raised beds
“We pay more than twice the world price for this coffee. It is the only way to keep this quality, and these families.” — Samuel
Taste it at home
